Cant 1
In the Cant Series organic and root-like coils reach upwards at a cant or lean. On the technical side, this series helped me explore vertical structure, balance, and composition. Perhaps the most exciting part for me in that process was when the piece was ready for final “canting” and I removed as many supporting structures as possible to create an open falling profile. On a more intuitive level, I think there was a very basic idea emerging in these sculptures as I made these during the pandemic and these pieces depicted how we lived with tremendous tension in our lives as we sought to continue and maintain a sense of balance and power.
